OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

 

This position supports the Office of Charter Compliance and Support’s efforts to efficiently and effectively collaborate with other District departments to meet the requirements of 1002.33 F.S., Charter Schools and applicable School Board policies.

The District Supervisor working in the area of Academics monitors the academic performance of charter schools to ensure compliance with state academic mandates and statutory and contractual performance goals, and coordinates curriculum related professional development and technical assistance.

 

The District Supervisor working in the area of Operations ensure alignment and implementation of the school program identified in the charter contract and monitors compliance with require operational processes and mandated initiatives and coordinates operational and governance related professional development and technical assistance.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

 

Academics

1.            Monitors schools to ensure compliance with state academic mandates such as School Improvement Plan, Educational Excellence School Advisory Council, and participation in state assessments.

 

2.            Monitors charter school compliance with required academic processes, mandated state assessments, and assists in the development and monitoring of academic corrective action plans.

 

3.            Conducts school instructional reviews and assists in the development of comprehensive reports on the instructional programs of charter schools.

 

4.            Conducts data analysis of charter school performance to identify trends participates in all aspects of the charter school authorizing cycle as directed.

 

5.            Assigns, monitors and supervises instructional coaches and conducts annual performance evaluations.

 

6.            Reviews and evaluates charter school applications to determine the efficacy of the schools’ curricula, pupil progression requirements, and supplemental school services, and ensures alignment to the Florida Model Charter Application.

 

7.            Coordinates the development and implementation of technical assistance and workshops to disseminate required and newly adopted academic information.

 

Operations

8.            Ensures alignment and implementation of the school program identified in the charter application and contract.

 

9.            Monitors charter school compliance with required operational processes, and mandated state initiatives.

 

10.         Monitors charter school parent and student handbooks, contracts, and regulations to ensure compliance and alignment with state statute and applicable board policy.

 

11.         Monitors compliance with state mandates on class size, teacher certification, and personnel performance evaluations.

 

12.         Ensures school schedules and calendars meet minimum requirements as stipulated in state statute.

 

13.         Reviews and evaluates charter school applications to determine the efficacy of the schools’ schedules, programs and services, and alignment to the Florida Model Charter Application.

 

14.         Coordinates the development and implementation of technical assistance and workshops to disseminate required operational, policy, and legal information for charter principals and community stakeholders.

 

15.         Ensures all school safety measures are in place and that the charter school is applying an appropriate code of student conduct including appropriate, progressive, and legal disciplinary actions;

 

Other

16.         Monitors and provides technical assistance to ensure charter schools, sponsored by M-DCPS, are in compliance with the provisions of federal, state and local regulations.

 

17.         Serves as primary information resource for Miami-Dade County Public Schools regarding public charter schools.

 

18.         Establishes sound working relationships with charter schools to provide academic and technical support to charter school principals.

 

19.         Participates in committee meetings to determine if applicants demonstrate the capacity to successfully open and operate a quality charter school and provides curriculum support to applicants as needed.

 

20.         Conducts school compliance reviews and assists in the development of comprehensive reports on the instructional programs of charter schools.

 

21.         Addresses and responds to parent inquiries and/or complaints, including community concerns related to charter schools; i.e., email messages, telephone calls and Superintendent’s Office referrals.

 

22.         Performs other duties related to the general administrative responsibilities of this position.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, mobility, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. This work is performed primarily indoors; however, some outdoor activities and evening hours are required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

1.            Master’s degree in education or related field with certification in administration and/or supervision.

 

2.            Certification in administration/supervision.

 

3.            Minimum of three (3) years experience in administration and/or experience in a leadership capacity, preferably in a K-12 setting.

 

4.            Familiarity with educational research, and major trends in education.

 

5.            Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
