OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY Hourly Position. Please contact Compensation at 305-995-7035 for Hourly Rate.
Responsible for performing building plan reviews and inspections in order to be compliant with the Florida Fire Prevention Code and all Fire Safety related codes, statutes, and regulations. Responsibilities include facilities design, permitting, inspection, quality assurance, quality controls, contract compliance, adherence to Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) standards, and enforcement actions for educational facilities and other construction projects. Provides technical expertise analysis and reports for review and action. Proposes recommendations for projects, issues and special assignments as appropriate.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
1. Reviews and evaluates the work of in-house Florida Building Code Inspectors and others overseeing district projects relative to design review, code compliance, quality assurance, construction documents and project close-out documents.
2. Reviews and evaluates the work of contracted Architectural/Engineering firms performing district projects relative to design review, code compliance, quality assurance, construction documents and project close-out documents.
3. Performs Fire Safety compliance plan reviews and inspections.
4. Executes project close-out documents in conformance with state statutes and rules.
5. Reviews Final Inspections to facilitate Certificates of Occupancy for assigned projects.
6. Coordinates district construction activities with other departments and district personnel.
7. Identifies discrepancies and needs related to the physical plant, and assists in the planning, scheduling, execution, and monitoring of corrective actions.
8. Uses electronic databases and spreadsheet software programs in order to create, maintain, review, analyze, and evaluate information for reports to be used by various administrative levels and departments throughout the District.
9. Evaluates compliance with regulations, procedures and specifications.
10. Serves on behalf of the immediate supervisor to interface with various regions, school site administrators, architects, engineers, committees and community groups.
11. Serves on behalf of the immediate supervisor to interface with Utility Agencies and the In-house Utility department for all issues related to Fire Safety.
12. Recommends scope of work boundaries and limits and assists with Fire Safety scope definitions.
13. When directed, attends and participates in field meetings with project managers, consultants, contractors, and Construction or Maintenance Operations personnel.
14. Provides Occupancy inspections and certifications as required by State statute or Administrative code.
15. Provides all necessary documentation and information for any pending litigation or court orders.
16. Reviews current industry developments, literature, and technical sources for information related to job responsibilities.
17. Performs other duties related to the general administrative responsibilities of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, mobility, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or associated discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five (5) years Fire Safety Code plans examining experience.
OR
Associate’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or associated discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven (7) years Fire Safety Code plans examining experience.
OR
High School diploma and documented minimum of ten (10) years experience in Fire Safety Code plans examining experience.
AND
Certification as a Fire Safety Inspector from the Florida State Fire Marshal, pursuant to F.S.S. Section 633.081 and the Rules and Regulations of the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal.
2. Experience in governmental or large educational institution design/construction management department.
3. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
4. Possess a working knowledge of current Federal, State, and local laws including, but not limited to, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations, Chapter 6-A2 of the Florida Administrative Code, Florida Building Code and SREF (State Requirements for Educational Facilities) that impact the occupancy, design, construction, fire safety, and maintenance of educational and ancillary facilities.
