The application deadline is Friday, August 15,  2025 by 11:59 p.m. (EST). This is an MEP pay grade 19 position. For external candidates, official transcripts will be required if you are recommended for the position.  Your degree must be from an accredited university. If the position does not require a college degree, you are required to have at least a high school diploma. Candidates with academic training and degrees granted outside the U.S. must submit a credential evaluation report that includes a statement of degree equivalency from an accredited agency in the U.S.

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

 

The Student Advocate is responsible for coordinating internal and external services including counseling, advocacy, and other available support for students who have involvement as a complainant, respondent, or witness in an incident(s) of a sexual nature. 

 

This employee will serve as an advocate for students immediately following an allegation of a sexual nature and will assist student(s) and their families in procuring necessary resources and support.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

 

1.            Conducts Title IX intakes on allegations of a sexual nature made by or against students.

 

2.            Acts as students’ advocate in cases where allegations of an inappropriate relationship and/or abuse have been brought forth by students to school or District staff; gathers and assesses independent information about the student’s situation and complaint in order to provide services to the student.

 

3.            Refers students and/or families to programs that provide social and emotional support to ensure the well-being and best interests of the student.

 

4.            Coordinates with internal and external partners to secure student support services, counseling and other services deemed necessary by the Student Advocate.

 

5.            Seeks cooperative solutions with internal and external partners to ensure the well-being and best interests of the student.

 

6.            Monitors the process of the matters brought forth by students until a resolution/conclusion has been reached.

 

7.            In the event a student is asked to testify or provide information in a formal setting the Student Advocate may, upon the request of the student or the student’s parent or guardian, accompany the student to these proceedings.

 

8.            Complies with various local, state and federal mandates related to confidentiality of student information and information obtained through the provision of counseling services to the student and exercises professional judgment in the use of confidential information, based on best practices, legal, and ethical considerations.

 

9.            Works collaboratively with community-based public and private social service agencies to access and enhance services to students and families.

 

10.         Assists in conducting training activities on discrimination/harassment for staff, students, and the District community.

 

11.         Communicates with students, parents, school, and District staff regarding clarification of School Board policies as they relate to discrimination/harassment.

 

12.         Performs other duties related to the general administrative responsibilities of the position.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, mobility, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.  The work is performed primarily indoors.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

1.            Master's degree in mental health counseling, guidance counseling, social work, psychology or related field. 

 

2.            Certified and/or licensed in mental health counseling, guidance counseling, social work, psychology or related field. 

 

3.            Minimum of 3 years of experience in children/family services or family support program or related experience.

 

4.            Familiarity with major trends and requirements in parent and family education, and family support services. 

 

5.            Knowledge and comprehension of legal concepts dealing with student privacy and confidentiality, due process, and of the general operations of the legal system, preferred.

 

6.            Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
